The Challenge
Otto Car, London’s largest provider of private hire cars, was facing a significant challenge in ensuring the safety of its drivers and passengers. The company supports over 8,000 rideshare drivers, providing services ranging from licensing to claims advice to driver coaching. As an official partner of Uber, Free Now, and Bolt, Otto Car lends PCO cars to private hire drivers across the UK, making safety a top priority. However, the company was struggling with unreliable telematics and limited data, which hindered its ability to accurately monitor driver safety and provide effective driver coaching to improve it. The lack of reliable data made it difficult for Otto Car to identify high-risk drivers and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
About The Customer
Otto Car is the largest provider of private hire cars in London, supporting more than 8,000 rideshare drivers with a range of services. These services include licensing, claims advice, and driver coaching. The company is an official partner of Uber, Free Now, and Bolt, lending PCO cars to private hire drivers across the UK. Safety is a top priority for Otto Car, and the company is committed to ensuring the safety of its drivers, their passengers, and other road users. To achieve this, Otto Car has implemented a proactive driver safety programme, leveraging advanced technology to monitor driver behaviour and provide effective coaching.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, Otto Car implemented Samsara’s AI-powered, dual-facing dash cams and tracking technology. This solution enabled the company to detect dangerous driving and analyse broader patterns of driver behaviour. The driver development team at Otto Car was thus empowered to identify high-risk drivers and take appropriate action. The Samsara technology also provided an opportunity for Otto Car to develop its driver coaching programme. By combining camera footage with tracking data, drivers could assess their own performance. Furthermore, the company introduced voice coaching, driver gamification, and driver alerts to educate drivers on the road, supporting them to drive more safely on their own. The implementation of Samsara's solutions started with 50 cars and has since been expanded to more than 1,900 vehicles.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
