The Challenge
Buypass AS, a Norwegian supplier of secure solutions for electronic identification, electronic signatures and payment, was looking to upgrade and consolidate its Application Delivery Controller (ADC) hardware devices without compromising the resiliency or performance power of its application delivery. As a service provider delivering identity management as a service, security is always a primary concern. There is simply no room for security gaps or performance drops. With aging existing technology and a fast-growing customer base, the company required a secure, high-availability solution that would deliver better performance. It also needed a flexible, scalable solution that would ensure continuity for its services and enable it to bring new personal electronic ID applications and services to market faster.
About The Customer
Buypass AS, founded in 2001, is a leading Norwegian supplier of user-friendly, secure solutions for electronic identification, electronic signatures and payment. Buypass offers electronic IDs that simplify and provide secure access to Buypass merchants’ Internet services. The company's solutions are being used in the consumer market, private businesses and public sector enterprises. Today, approximately 2.1 million personal Buypass IDs have been issued, yielding an approximate 100,000 transactions per day, with 3,000 concurrent users during peak times. Buypass offers a solution in which both smart cards and mobile phones can be used as carriers of an electronic ID.
The Solution
After conducting a thorough, multi-month technical evaluation, Buypass chose Radware’s ADC-VX solution primarily on the strength of its advanced virtualization capabilities. These include complete fault isolation, network isolation and management isolation between virtual ADC instances. Radware’s isolation architecture is similar to dedicated physical ADC devices yet it eliminates the risks involved with consolidating services on a streamlined hardware suite. Buypass chose Radware’s ADC-VX solution to work on top of four Radware Alteon 5412 high availability switches at two different Buypass sites. The Alteon 5412 will serve IT services at both sites. Based on dynamic routing information, one site has been set-up to be redundant for the other, ensuring continuous service. Radware’s ADC-VX solution assures performance predictability for Buypass’ critical web applications, including cardholder registration and card lifecycle management (for both online and mobile domains), SSL certificates for ordering and management, merchant management, and other key applications. The Radware solution also supports Buypass in its goals to consolidate its infrastructure without compromising the level of service it provides.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
