Well known for their mouse and rat traps, Victor pest control constantly attempts to use new technology to create better products for their customers. Seeing an opportunity to improve their product offering, the product developers at Victor decided to create an intelligent mousetrap that lets users know that it caught a mouse—thus preventing the user from having to check the trap every day. In order to make this happen, Victor needed a way to send signals from battery-powered traps to an email or cellphone. Because the traps run on batteries, Victor would need something low-powered but could still send a strong signal inside a building.
Synapse’s SNAP®-based RF (radio frequency) modules offered Victor everything required to create their Victor Kill-@lert Electronic Mouse and Rat Trap systems. The module’s low battery consumption allowed Victor engineers could create a product that didn’t require frequent battery changes. And, as an added bonus, Victor discovered they could easily get the module to transmit a signal to notify users of low battery power. The Victor development team also avoided common IoT implementation headaches, since Synapse’s RF Modules use a field-proven mesh networking technology that work well inside buildings and automatically handles the headaches of networking among low-powered devices. Transmitting signals from the traps wasn’t enough; Victor needed an easy way for their users to see the status of the traps. To make a seamless solution for their users, Victor connectedSNAP-powered USB dongles to customized Windows tablets which served as the “control board” for their Kill-@lert products. The straight-forward solution ensured that their customers could easily set-up the system without any technical headaches.
