Tom Sagi, who joined his family's construction business in 2008, faced significant challenges in tracking employee time and wages as the company transitioned from using subcontractors to hiring their own employees. The existing time tracking platforms required an email address, which many of his employees did not have. Even with the adoption of mobile time tracking, importing the team's hours into payroll was a cumbersome process. This led to inefficiencies, with significant time spent on payroll processing instead of productive tasks. As the company grew, Sagi also faced challenges in streamlining other aspects of the business, such as client onboarding. With a lean team and limited resources, it was crucial to automate non-core functions to allow the team to focus on improving the platform.
The customer in this case study is Tom Sagi, who joined his family's construction business in 2008. The business, based in Silicon Valley, initially worked with subcontractors on a lump-sum basis to build luxury homes. However, as the company grew, it transitioned to hiring its own employees, which brought about challenges in tracking time and wages. Sagi, recognizing the inefficiencies in the existing payroll process, founded Hourly in 2018. Hourly is a mobile-friendly platform designed to simplify time tracking and payroll processing for small businesses. The platform uses GPS and geo-fencing to track time spent working and automatically calculates overtime based on local labor laws.
Sagi founded Hourly in 2018, a mobile-friendly platform designed to simplify time tracking and payroll processing for small businesses. Hourly uses GPS and geo-fencing to track time spent working and automatically calculates overtime based on local labor laws. The integration between time tracking and payroll allows payroll to be processed on the go, with minimal effort. To streamline the client onboarding process, Sagi enlisted Zapier to create an intuitive workflow. When a client signs up for Hourly, a checklist from Process Street outlines the necessary steps to join the payroll platform. Zapier then triggers the creation of a document in PandaDoc and automatically emails clients via Gmail. Once everything has been signed, Zapier uses RingCentral to automatically send important tax forms to the IRS. This automated process reduces the time spent on onboarding and minimizes mistakes.
