The Challenge
Vidi, a platform for hosting, finding, and sharing virtual meetups, was born out of the need to adapt to the global lockdowns and quarantines brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. The co-founders, Michael Salmasi and Michael Stroev, recognized that video conferencing had evolved from a tool for business meetings and casual hangouts to a more interactive form of online media. They aimed to create a platform that would make it easier for people to find, host, and share virtual meetups without any hassle or fees. However, they faced the challenge of building a functional prototype for their idea quickly and efficiently. They initially planned to use Bubble, a no-code platform, to build a basic dummy prototype for an eventual Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
About The Customer
Vidi is designed for creators who want to host virtual meetups and users who want to find and attend these meetups. The platform is particularly useful in the current global situation, where physical meetups are limited due to the pandemic. Creators can use Vidi to promote and monetize their meetups, while users can discover new meetups, register to attend, and even donate or buy tickets directly through the platform. The platform is also flexible, allowing meetups to be hosted using Vidi’s built-in video conferencing technology or a third-party platform. After the event, attendees can easily access a recording of the meetup on the platform.
The Solution
The co-founders decided to build Vidi on Bubble due to its flexibility and lower barrier to entry compared to starting from scratch with different libraries and frameworks. Vidi allows creators to promote and monetize their virtual meetups, which can be hosted using Vidi’s built-in video conferencing technology, or on a third-party platform, such as Zoom. Users can discover meetups, register to attend, donate, and buy event tickets directly through the platform. After the event, the creator can post a recording of the meetup that attendees can easily access on the meetup page. As they worked with Bubble, they discovered that they could do more with the no-code platform than they initially thought, leading to a more refined MVP than they had planned.
Operational Impact
  • The use of Bubble's no-code platform has allowed Vidi to quickly and efficiently build a functional prototype for their platform. This has not only saved them time but also allowed them to refine their product more than they initially thought possible. The flexibility of Bubble has also allowed them to plan for future enhancements to their platform, such as more powerful host controls, AR filters, custom backgrounds, custom emojis, reactions, and more. Even as they plan to phase out the use of Bubble, they can continue using the no-code platform for rapid prototyping of future features or versions of Vidi.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Vidi started testing their platform in May and has already built a small amount of traction.
  • The platform has attracted a select base of creators who are experimenting with the platform/format.
  • Organized events on the platform have brought in a fair amount of viewers, with the biggest event drawing 100 simultaneous participants.
