Bolloré Logistics, a full-service logistics company, was facing challenges in maximizing its financial and operational performance due to inadequate monitoring and control of HR policies and related expenses. The company's HR expenses accounted for nearly 60% of its operating budget. However, the company lacked the ability to retrieve consistent data and efficiently track key aspects of their day-to-day operations. The financial management team could only see an overall view of HR expenses and had no way to determine how much of those costs were allocated specifically to staff salaries and other areas. HR had limited visibility into its operations and was forced to rely on Excel for generating reports and analyzing critical data, a process that was time-consuming and redundant. In addition, operational management had no monitoring of their own – they were dependent on the data provided by financial management and HR to measure their most important indicators.

For service providers like Bolloré Logistics, staff salaries and other expenses associated with human resources (HR) activities can represent a major portion of the company’s operating costs. In Bolloré’s case, HR accounts for close to 60 percent of its operating budget.

Bolloré Logistics decided to deploy a shared reporting and analysis solution across the company, allowing staff to track HR activities, workforce trends, productivity, costs, and more. The company selected the WebFOCUS business intelligence (BI) platform from Information Builders to support this initiative. Approximately 300 users across the company can now leverage a powerful, fully unified environment to accurately analyze payroll, manage and monitor the implementation of HR policies, and optimize performance at each level of the enterprise through better work organization. This has empowered managers with greater control over HR activities, allowing them to take action to boost productivity and minimize related expenditures. The WebFOCUS platform is built on a simple, yet powerful architecture that enables deep analysis without requiring an OLAP engine. It also offers users the ability to work offline, and enter data, comments, and additional figures.
