QNAP NAS helps Artisantech deploy IoT applications for its client to optimize en
QNAP Systems
Artisantech was commissioned by the New Taipei City Department of Education to upgrade the energy monitoring and management system in its education center, and to introduce a new server. The original energy monitoring and management system at the education center runs on a PC-based server. The machine has been worn out from prolonged usage, and is difficult to maintain. As such, breakdowns are common, resulting in frequent disruptions. There is also the pressing issue of insufficient storage space. As the energy monitoring and management system generates a large amount of data, the education center needs a sufficiently large space to store this data for downstream analysis. Existing storage devices are no longer serviceable and must be replaced. The education center also planned to set up an integrated management platform that facilitates real-time monitoring of various types of energy equipment (such as water meters, electricity meters, and solar panels). This allows them to quickly obtain status updates of various types of energies, allowing them to make use of data and analysis results in their educational guided tours and presentations, to educate the public on the proper usage of energies and impacts of sustainable development on the environment.Having understood the client’s needs, Artisantech began to plan and improve on the solution. Their strategy was to deploy a central server in the client’s energy monitoring and management system for centralized management of energy devices, and for proper storage of data from various energy sources.

Argent International Takes On-Time Delivery To A New Level With PLEX
Plex Systems
Argent used to track its operations in an ERP system from QAD. But the company’s end users found the system cumbersome—and its decision-makers grew concerned about the costs associated with the system. “Because we had installed QAD in-house, we had to purchase and maintain our own servers,” said Randy Garreston, System Administrator for Argent International. “We also found the upgrade process to be disruptive. Just when we’d get used to one version, they’d change it and we’d have to learn how to navigate a reconfigured interface.”

TSS4U using IIoT to collect machine data and created alarms of important events
IXON
TSS initially started looking for a remote access solution. TSS wanted to gain more insight into their systems, which are often situated at remote and hard to reach locations. “We want to learn how exactly our systems behave, to find out if and how we can improve them in the future,” Sébastien explains. The gathering of machine data plays an enormous role in TSS’s drive to continuously improve and optimise their products.TSS came across IXON during the Industrial Ethernet Event. The focus quickly shifted from remote access to data logging. Sébastien explains: “With Cloud Logging we can gather data. We don’t share all data with the customer as some information is only important for us.” TSS gathers machine data which allows them to monitor and analyse their systems. However, it did not help TSS quickly respond to failures and ad-hoc problems.

Getting the Torque Just Right Could Save Millions for Aerospace Companies
Upskill
GE Aviation loses millions of dollars each year to errors made at key points during the assembly and overhaul of its engines. The costs show up in lost productivity, delays in testing, delays in customer deliveries, and the man-hours required to troubleshoot and correct faults. If errors arenʼt detected until after the engines are sent to customers, the repair costs exponentially increase.B-nuts are one such key manufacturing point. They play a critical role in aircraft engine fluid lines and hoses, providing a sturdy, reliable seal―but only if tightened and torqued properly. If not torqued properly, there will be a need for a maintenance do-over, cancelled flight, or even an in-flight shut down.

Techem cost-effective way to increase energy efficiency
As the market leader in remote radio metering of energy consumption in homes and commercial buildings, Techem is driving integration and digital processes in the property sector. The company had been using radio-based technology for this for many years. Meter readers used a ‘walk-by’ process to collect readings from electric meters using mobile devices. Plausibility checks were then carried out to avoid transmission errors and other issues. In certain circumstances, Techem also used a stationary radio solution to read meters. Both processes worked well and reliably in practice, but there was still room for improvement. The main disadvantage of mobile data collection was that the company still had to send an employee to the relevant property to take the meter readings. With stationary collection, every master data collector needs 230 volts power supply. Its location also must be chosen carefully to ensure that it has sufficient mobile coverage. Plus, the radio standard currently in use has limitations as it is unable to penetrate thick concrete walls and transmit signals from deep cellars. For these reasons, and to further improve and digitise its processes, Techem decided to look for a simpler and more flexible solution when collecting meter readings.

CAT M1 custom antenna for asset trackers
In the summer of 2018, Viatrax started a new LTE design project for their new GPS Tracker for LTE Cat 1M. Radientum was chosen to design the multiband antenna for the device. Despite the challenges, the product came out as a success. The GPS tracker itself was designed by an engineering company Device Solutions based in Morrisville, North Carolina. Device Solutions and Radientum worked closely in liaison to deliver Viatrax with the best possible result. When starting the project, Viatrax engineers were pondering whether they should locate the antenna on the circuit board itself or create a trace antenna. The latter was a better, but at the same time more difficult task.– Everyone agreed it was going to be a challenge. We discussed with the folks at Radientum and they said they guarantee it will work. If not, they wouldn’t have charged us for the work, Viatrax Automation CEO Mike Webster says.– Radientum went back and forth with our design people to make adjustments. It turned out they did a really good job and the trace antenna solution will end up saving us a lot of money and parts.

Managing and Mitigating Risk
Czarnikow is wholly reliant upon business information management to support its global operations. The combination of manual and unstructured office based processes lacked the control, clarity, efficiency, security and governance required within the business.Information flow across the business and its counter-parties was handled through custom spread sheets, email (both user mailboxes and Microsoft Exchange public folders), Word documents and specific business function systems such as Infor SunSystems FMS for accounting and Allegro for trading/shipping. A lack of flexible and compliant process management in trade registration, credit risk and counterparty on-boarding was leading to unacceptable levels of risk in day-to-day operations. This was increasingly threatening operational capability and failing to support the strategic growth plans of the business. The business issues included:• Too many manual, cumbersome processes with inconsistent hand-offs and duplication of data entry • Pre execution enforcement of internal compliance procedures, ensuring adherence to external regulations with improved reporting and transparency • Manual processes and retrospective visibility were leading to unacceptable levels of operational risk • Inability to delegate authority across the business due to insufficient auditability and control • Limited visibility and accessibility of real-time, accurate management information to inform business decisions • Lack of global standards in compliance processing
