The Challenge
24Storage, a Swedish self-storage company, was founded in 2015 with a vision to disrupt the traditional self-storage industry through digitalization. The company aimed to create a centralized, cloud-based solution that would allow remote control of all its facilities, eliminating the need for on-site employees and giving customers complete control over their service. However, the storage market in Sweden is highly competitive, and the company faced the challenge of developing its own digital systems to fine-tune the user experience for both customers and its customer support team. The goal was to manage each facility efficiently and increase the overall quality of service. The company also faced the challenge of transitioning from a startup to a more comprehensive platform, requiring a partnership to help maintain its digital ecosystem and engineer the next stage of innovations.
About The Customer
24Storage is a Swedish self-storage company founded in 2015. The company has been driving innovation within the Swedish self-storage sector through a centralized, cloud-based solution that allows remote control of all its facilities. This technology eliminates the need for on-site employees and gives customers complete control over their service, from sign-up and payment to 24/7 access. The company's digital-first approach has streamlined business processes and helped it rapidly expand across Sweden. Today, 24Storage controls the second largest market share in the country, with 23 facilities all controlled from one central location in Stockholm.
The Solution
24Storage partnered with Nexer, a member of the Microsoft Partner Network, to streamline its existing Azure cloud-based system and create a more standardized platform. Nexer helped 24Storage to rebuild its business processes within the Azure system, linking all data together and integrating with Azure to enable bookings and payments to be taken through the same platform. With Microsoft Dynamics 365 fully implemented through the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, 24Storage created a dashboard with a complete view of both customer and facility data, as well as additional functionality that handled front-end marketing, e-commerce, and administrative services. Nexer also extended 24Storage's existing Power BI solution to make sense of all this data, providing a clear financial and operational overview of each facility. Furthermore, Nexer developed a tool that fetched competitor prices and automatically matched them to 24Storage in real time, helping the company stay ahead of the market.
Operational Impact
  • 24Storage's digital-first approach has revolutionized the self-storage industry, providing a unique customer experience and efficient facility management. The company's centralized, data-driven infrastructure allows it to operate each facility remotely, with all customer interactions taking place online or via video conferencing tools. This streamlined and cost-efficient process has increased customer and employee satisfaction. The remote working model also proved valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the company was able to keep each facility operational with minimal impact. Furthermore, the introduction of a Microsoft Azure IoT Central solution has optimized 24Storage's business by collecting data from different sensors within each facility, allowing the company to dispatch technicians and fix problems before they happen. This has ensured that the facilities can continue to operate without anyone onsite, further enhancing the company's innovative business model.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 24Storage has grown from a startup in 2015 to controlling the second largest market share in the country in just five years.
  • The company has rapidly expanded to 23 facilities across Sweden, all of which can be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • 24Storage saw a rise in e-commerce sales during the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to its digital sales process.
