The Challenge
Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc. needed a material handling partner to help achieve higher service levels and profitability while reducing time-consuming lift truck equipment management. The company required reliable lift trucks to handle specific applications in both ambient and cold-temperature environments. Additionally, Maines needed a solution to ensure all operators were properly trained to meet OSHA’s lift truck training requirements.
About The Customer
Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc. is a leading distributor in the foodservice industry, operating nine distribution centers in the eastern and midwestern United States. The company stocks a wide range of products necessary for businesses to offer foodservice to their patrons, including food and beverage products and flatware. Maines serves various sectors, including restaurants, universities, hospitals, golf courses, and cruise lines. The company is known for its focus on customer service and its commitment to maintaining high service levels and profitability.
The Solution
Maines chose The Raymond Corporation and its authorized Sales and Service Center network to provide a fleet of 174 Raymond® lift trucks, including pallet trucks, Reach-Fork® trucks, orderpickers, and Swing-Reach® trucks. These trucks handle specific applications in both ambient and cold-temperature environments. The pallet trucks feature the Raymond CoastPRO® system, which enhances productivity by reducing the time needed to walk back and forth during order picking. Raymond also installed extra guards on some of the counterbalanced lift trucks to protect the hydraulics and baselegs during turns around racks. To ensure proper training, Maines utilizes Raymond’s operator training program for new hires, recertifications, and refresher training.
Operational Impact
  • Maines relies on a fleet of 174 Raymond® lift trucks to keep distribution operations running smoothly.
  • The pallet trucks used in the freezer environment include a cold-storage conditioning package to protect the control systems from condensation and freezing.
  • Maines has a comprehensive maintenance agreement with Pengate Handling Systems, ensuring two dedicated service technicians are consistently on-site for routine and preventive maintenance.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Maines operates nine distribution centers in the eastern and midwestern United States.
  • The company relies on a fleet of 174 Raymond® lift trucks.
