The Challenge
Masoutis Supermarkets, the fastest growing supermarket chain in Greece, was facing challenges due to its rapid organic growth. The demand for ad hoc reports and analyses of various business parameters had increased exponentially. Business users ranging from buyers to store area managers, controllers, and C-level managers were pushing the capacity and capability of the existing IT infrastructure to its limits. The existing reporting tools were struggling to handle the flood of data from POS, ERP, CRM, WMS systems all lying on different databases from DB2 to MS SQL and Excel. 600 million records queries were common practice, which often resulted in a wait time of 1-3 hours for a report to run. Apart from increasing performance, Masoutis was also looking to improve the quality of decision making by providing users with valuable business insight, allowing them to freely navigate in the ocean of company data anywhere, anytime, securely.
About The Customer
Masoutis Supermarkets is the fastest growing supermarket chain in Greece. Founded in 1976 by Diamantis Masoutis, it has grown from a 400 square meter store at the heart of Thessaloniki to a business with over 250 outlets and more than 6,000 employees, serving the northern half of Greece. Its turnover in 2012 exceeded €0.75 billion. Today, Masoutis Supermarkets is still a family business run by the next generation. The company implements a consistent strategy of growth, investing in key business functions like a state-of-the-art new logistics center.
The Solution
Masoutis IT department had been researching for some time vendors for a system that would 'effectively retrieve, manage, present and distribute data and information within the organization. They were aware of QlikView's reputation and turned to DCW Software Hellas, a local QlikView partner and long-time Masoutis IT partner, for a proposal. After a short brief, they agreed to focus on Sales data and implement a SIB project. The results were impressive. The first implementation delivered a complete set of QlikView Analysis covering range analysis, inventory analysis, profitability analysis, role-based customised dashboards, analysis and effectiveness of campaigns and promotional brochures, and sell in/sell through analysis. The second phase of analysis covered the areas of logistics, purchasing, financial controlling, and store management.
