The Challenge
Plugue Telecom, a wireless ISP serving the Brazilian state of São Paulo, faced a significant challenge in providing Wi-Fi connection to the municipality of Americana. The region's tropical climate and lush vegetation made it difficult for Wi-Fi signals to penetrate, making it challenging for residents and businesses to access reliable internet for browsing, video surveillance, security applications, and voice and data streaming. The dense foliage made it difficult to cover the municipality's many houses and small businesses with reliable, high-capacity band delivery, especially in non-line of sight (LOS) situations.

About The Customer
Plugue Telecom is a wireless Internet Service Provider (ISP) that serves the Brazilian state of São Paulo. They are committed to providing high-quality Wi-Fi connections to their customers, which include residents and businesses in the municipality of Americana. These customers rely on Plugue's services for a variety of needs, including internet browsing, video surveillance, security applications, and voice and data streaming for both home and enterprise use. Despite the challenging environmental conditions, Plugue is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to ensure reliable, high-capacity band delivery.
The Solution
After being disappointed by other vendors' equipment, Plugue Telecom began exploring the market for broadband infrastructure designed specifically for non-LOS situations. They discovered Cambium Networks, which offered comprehensive webinars, targeted product information, and in-depth conversations amongst engineers and network operators via the Cambium Community forum. These resources thoroughly described Cambium's solutions and how to approach every stage of deployment, from selection to installation. Inspired by the wealth of information and the potential of Cambium's solutions, Plugue decided to reach out and collaborate with Cambium Networks.
Operational Impact
  • The collaboration with Cambium Networks has been a resounding success for Plugue Telecom. The new network was successful from the moment of installation, enabling Plugue to overcome the challenges posed by the dense foliage and provide reliable Wi-Fi access to even the most forested areas. The solution has also allowed Plugue to expand its offerings, providing a range of plans that cater to different customer needs. The system, currently comprised of two 450i 900MHz APs and 60 registered subscriber modules, is set to continue expanding, ensuring that current customers remain satisfied and future users are within reach.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The new network enabled customers to enjoy fast, reliable Wi-Fi access even in the most forested areas.
  • Despite Brazil’s regulatory limit of 10MHz channel width, Plugue was able to expand its offerings to a range of plans that deliver anywhere from 10-25Mbps.
  • Their system is presently comprised of two 450i 900MHz APs and 60 registered subscriber modules.
