The company faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the medical supply chain and intensified the need for a comprehensive and agile data management system.
The Solution
Integra Life Sciences embarked on a strategic transformation to regain visibility into its inventory and drive growth during challenging times. The company engaged Wipro as a strategic partner and migrated its data from the legacy data warehouse to Azure Databricks. Integra built small proofs of concept across its business, focusing on building next-generation data pipelines, implementing DevOps, and creating reusable components. The company migrated 500 data objects and built 700 data pipelines. The Databricks Lakehouse now provides a unified platform for enterprise data warehouse, AI, machine learning, and IoT. After a three-month parallel run with the legacy system, Integra went live on its new Databricks Lakehouse Platform within nine months.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Azure Databricks has significantly improved Integra's operational efficiency. The company now releases its data warehouse at 3:00 AM each day instead of 6:00 AM, making data available much sooner for the daily Salesforce refresh as well as for Power BI and other downstream systems. The end-to-end enterprise data warehouse processing journey, which used to take 16 hours, now takes just five hours. Additionally, Integra has reduced its virtual machine footprint by 46%.
