The Challenge
Integra Life Sciences, a global provider of medical technologies, faced a significant challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the medical supply chain. The company needed a comprehensive view of global supply and demand to ensure the availability of its products for elective surgeries. However, its aging data warehouse limited its supply chain agility, causing delays in accessing critical data on usage patterns, stock levels, and quality issues. The legacy warehouse system, IBM DataStage, was time-consuming and inflexible, hindering the company's ability to respond to changing needs swiftly. The company needed a solution that would provide timely insights into inventory and demand, enabling it to deliver its products more efficiently.
About The Customer
Integra Life Sciences is a global provider of medical technologies used in surgeries. The company's mission is to increase the availability of elective surgeries by ensuring its products are in the right place at the right time. This process heavily relies on data, which helps Integra's decision-makers determine where demand is building, where products are located, and how to best meet changing needs. The company faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the medical supply chain and intensified the need for a comprehensive and agile data management system.
The Solution
Integra Life Sciences embarked on a strategic transformation to regain visibility into its inventory and drive growth during challenging times. The company engaged Wipro as a strategic partner and migrated its data from the legacy data warehouse to Azure Databricks. Integra built small proofs of concept across its business, focusing on building next-generation data pipelines, implementing DevOps, and creating reusable components. The company migrated 500 data objects and built 700 data pipelines. The Databricks Lakehouse now provides a unified platform for enterprise data warehouse, AI, machine learning, and IoT. After a three-month parallel run with the legacy system, Integra went live on its new Databricks Lakehouse Platform within nine months.
