Roush Industries, a global engineering solutions provider, faced significant challenges with its trucking division. The company's electronic logging devices (ELDs) were malfunctioning, leading to connectivity issues and incorrect driver-trip matching. This resulted in drivers sitting idle, leading to financial losses for the company. Furthermore, the inability to track hours of service (HOS) due to the faulty ELDs led to several HOS violations, tarnishing the company's reputation and causing legal complications. After 18 months of disruption, Roush decided it was time for a change.

The company uses its trucking division to transport products around the country, with over-the-road drivers being an integral part of its transportation business. Located in Livonia, MI, Roush operates a fleet of 80 trucks. The company is committed to excellence and safety, and when faced with challenges in its trucking division due to malfunctioning ELDs, it sought a robust solution to improve driver safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
The Solution
Roush deployed Motive's ELDs to get HOS violations under control. The company also invested in Motive’s road-facing AI Dashcams to defend against false claims and improve driver safety. Additionally, Roush started using Motive’s Tracking & Telematics product to gain real-time location visibility into their fleet. The AI Dashcam video validated Roush drivers’ professionalism, exonerating them in accidents. The dash cams also enabled Roush to hold drivers accountable and fuel their growth. The company used dash cam clips to coach drivers on unsafe behaviors and relied on real-time email alerts to stay on top of unsafe behaviors that required attention. Motive Fleet Tracking, which shows current weather conditions, was used to track drivers’ location and communicate with them about storms that jeopardize their safety.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
