The Challenge
Lloydspharmacy faced the challenge of having multiple 'versions of the truth' in their data, leading to inconsistencies and inefficiencies in their reporting and decision-making processes. They needed a single source and repository for enterprise-wide data to improve data management, analysis, and reporting. Additionally, they aimed to expand the enterprise data user community to include Operations and Finance departments, providing benefits to a wider audience and improving Management Accounts production and output. The objective was to enhance decision-support reporting for senior and operational management, making it faster and more efficient.

Lloydspharmacy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Celesio AG, Europe’s No. 1 in pharmaceutical wholesaling and retail pharmacy. Celesio’s Pharmacies Division, which includes Lloydspharmacies, operates in 7 countries, has 1,900 pharmacies, and services over 500,000 customers daily. Lloydspharmacy is the largest community pharmacy chain in the UK and dispenses 100 million prescription items annually. The company is focused on providing high-quality pharmaceutical services and products to its customers, leveraging advanced technology and data management solutions to enhance its operations and customer satisfaction.
The Solution
Lloydspharmacy deployed the MicroStrategy BI Platform as part of an EPoS solution to analyze over-the-counter sales and integrate various data sources. They incorporated financial system data from Cedar E5 and EPOS data from an in-house developed Siemens EPOS system into their data warehouse. This integration allowed for daily data feeds and provided a comprehensive view of their operations. The solution included a balance scorecard that displayed relevant performance metrics, dashboards, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), enhancing decision-support reporting for senior and operational management. The implementation also involved providing Head Office and field managers with updated laptops and a web-based user interface for reporting, enabling them to drill down into transactions and investigate root causes of non-performance.
