The Challenge
QD, a leading provider of managed services solutions in Sweden, was facing a challenge after a recent merger. The company found itself using four separate backup solutions which increased operational costs and threatened to eat into margins. The multiple backup solutions required substantial manual effort to manage and each member of the service desk team had to be trained on each backup system individually, a time-consuming process. The company was looking for a platform that could support a range of use cases, especially the ability to back up virtual and physical machines whether they were based in customers’ offices or in their own data centers.
About The Customer
Founded in 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden, QD is a leading provider of managed services solutions. The company employs 60 people and operates two disaster recovery data centers and one co-location site. QD generates annual revenues equivalent to approximately USD23 million. The company recently expanded its reach substantially through a merger. However, managing the multiple acquired backup solutions drove up operational costs and threatened to eat into margins.
The Solution
To solve the challenge, QD evaluated backup and restore offerings from a number of vendors, and ultimately selected IBM Spectrum Protect—an enterprise-grade data protection and recovery solution. Working together with an expert team from IBM Premier Business Partner Cristie Nordic AB, QD implemented and configured a single instance of IBM Spectrum Protect software to support all of its SME customers. The IBM Spectrum Protect solution enabled QD to deliver high-quality, cost-effective data protection and recovery services, helping it to win new customers.
